바라다, 희망하다 wish, hope

 

 

 

머릿속으론 알고 있지만, 막상 대화에서 지 맘대로 튀어나오는 wish.

hope를 써야 적절한 때에 wish를 씀으로써 의미가 완전히 달라질 수 있음에 주의할 필요가 있다.

 

 

hope

hope (for sth)(that): to want something to happen and think that it is possible

hope to do sth: to intend to do something if possible

 

 

 

wish

wish (that): to want something to happen or to be true even though it is unlikely or impossible.

wish (sb/ sth) to do sth: to want to do something

This course is designed for people wishing to update their computer skills.

He was not sure whether he wished her to stay or go.

wish sb sth: to want something to happen

She could not believe that he wished her harm.

가능성이 낮거나 불가능한 것을 희망하는 것에는 wish를,

가능한 것을 바라는 것은 hope가 적절 한 것 같다.
